Job Description:

This position is contingent on award

The Missile Defense Agency's Targets and Countermeasures (MDA/TC) directorate provides threat credible target scenes for MDA flight test missions supporting tests of all sensors and systems defending our nation from ballistic and maneuvering missile systems. There is near-term need for expertise in the following areas to support research and development activities for deployable sensor systems to observe target phenomenology during flight:

  • Modify hardware designs using Solidworks CAD 
  • Perform thermal and finite element analysis of the completed design
  • Develop a hardware in the loop benchtop test apparatus to inform hardware and software design trades
  • Develop software using C++, JAVA or comparable language to operate the remote sensor package autonomously
  • Develop a software in the loop simulation environment
  • Perform hardware integration of the final product
  • Support telemetry system testing at the Reagan Test Site Telemetry hardware-in-the-loop facility in Boston, MA
  • Support zero gravity, thermal, vibe, sine, shock and vacuum transport testing of the final design
  • Support initial fielding and first flight of the completed sensor package

Preferred Skills:


Candidate should hold a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or science with 2 or more years of technical experience. Employment requires the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in end-to-end product development of hardware and software systems
  • Familiarity with missile Guidance, Navigation and Control principles 
  • Capable of utilizing, adapting and developing analytical tools, techniques, and processes to develop products
  • Familiarity with many of the following software suites: MATLAB, TAOS, MS Office, FORTRAN, Simulink, Linux, C++, Java, Satellite Tool Kit (STK), Solidworks
  • Familiarity with MDA targets and countermeasures
  • Familiarity with MDA flight test process, planning and resultant data
  • Capable of synthesizing test and design results for presentation to senior leaders
