Job Description:

The Missile Defense Agency's Targets and Countermeasures (MDA/TC) directorate provides threat credible target scenes for MDA flight test missions supporting tests of all sensors and systems defending our nation from ballistic and maneuvering missile systems. There is an immediate need for expertise in the following areas to support planning activities leading up to the execution of MDA flight test missions:

  • Synthesize technical information to assess the feasibility of proposed Hypersonic systems and technologies including mechanical, electrical, thermal, trajectory, signatures and materials of missile systems
  • Generate representative trajectories of maneuvering and ballistic missile systems
  • Analyze Radar Cross Section (RCS) and optical models of missile systems
  • Prepare presentations for senior leadership detailing expected performance of target systems and their effect on the system under test
  • Aide in the development of target and countermeasure system requirements to meet element and system flight test requirements 

Preferred Skills:

Qualifications

Candidate should hold a minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or science with 5 to 8 years technical experience. Employment requires the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with missile Guidance, Navigation and Control principles and their effect on trajectory modeling and simulation of missile systems
  • Expertise in trajectory modeling is required; expertise in RCS and optical modeling is desired
  • Capable of utilizing, adapting and developing analytical tools, techniques, and processes 
  • Familiarity with many of the following software suites: MATLAB, TAOS, MS Office, FORTRAN, X-Patch, OSC, Simulink, Linux, C++, Java, Satellite Tool Kit (STK)
  • Familiarity with MDA elements including radar, optical, battle management, and interceptor systems
  • Familiarity with MDA flight test process, planning and resultant data
  • Capable of synthesizing target and missile data for presentation to senior leaders
  • Familiarity with MDA TGx software 

Areas of expertise

  • Synthesis of technical information to assess the technical performance of ballistic and maneuvering missile systems
  • Motivated to grasp the functionality of various GNC algorithms, missile system designs and their effect on the missile defense system. 
  • Development of requirements for employment of existing and development of future target systems
  • Development of trajectory, RCS and optical models of missile systems
  • Evaluation, synthesis, and visualization of target data for senior leadership
  • Motivated to grasp the functionality and the effect of targets on MDA systems (GMD, Aegis, THAAD, Patriot, C2BMC, AN/TPY-2, and Overheads)
